How children learn here

How children learn here, stage by stage: through play at first, then step by step towards reading, writing and numbers.

Five minds, in plain words

Péntemind grows five minds in every child. Kidzee pairs each with a step in how children learn: feeling settled first, then taking knowledge in, keeping it, using it, and making something new of it.

  1. Empathetic mind

    Emotional Balance

Knowing their own feelings and noticing other people's. Kidzee puts it first: a child who feels settled is ready to learn.

In a child, this can look like waiting for a turn, or comforting a friend who is upset.

  2. Conscientious mind

    Knowledge Acquisition

Taking in new things with care, and beginning to make thoughtful choices of their own.

In a child, this can look like asking “why?”, and choosing which book, which colour, which way.

  3. Focused mind

    Knowledge Retention

Staying with a task and practising until it comes right, so that what is learned stays.

In a child, this can look like trying a puzzle again, and again, until the last piece fits.

  4. Analytical mind

    Knowledge Application

Looking closely, comparing and working things out, step by step, to solve a problem.

In a child, this can look like sorting blocks by size before building with them.

  5. Inventive mind

    Knowledge Development

Thinking past the usual answer: imagining, and trying ideas of their own.

In a child, this can look like a box that becomes a bus, or a story with a new ending.

Kidzee's Péntemind is aligned to NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework.

Learn, unlearn, relearn, by example

Kidzee calls its approach metacognition: learning to notice how you learn, so a mistake becomes a better way. Here is what the three words can look like, in one child and one tower of blocks.

  1. Learn

A child builds a tower of blocks, straight up, tall and thin. At the sixth block, it falls.

  2. Unlearn

They let go of “taller is better” and look again at what went wrong: the bottom was too narrow to hold it.

  3. Relearn

They build again, on a wide base. The tower stands, and now they know why.

An example of the method, not a record of a lesson at the school.

Eight programmes, in plain words

Péntemind's programmes, as Kidzee describes them: the names your child may come home talking about.

All eight run in every year from Playgroup to Senior KG. From Class 1, the classes learn from NCERT's textbooks.
